Aloha! I’m Craig Shimizu, owner of Shimizu Voice. I’ve been teaching singing for over 35 years. I’m familiar with most vocal techniques as I've tested many over the years. I consider myself a scientific teacher and only use high efficiency techniques.
At this time, there is no ‘holy grail’ of teaching methods as its success will depend on the teacher’s ability to diagnose the students problem accurately and then be able to correct it. The student has some responsibility as he must follow the instructor's remedies closely.
Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I’m also able to ‘interpret’ what other teachers are trying to teach you. We all want the same thing – for the student to be able to sing beautifully without straining.
There are countless methods that proliferate among voice teachers. Many of these methods are not grounded in science and involve what I call ‘abstract’ terminology.
I do my best to avoid using these amorphous terms and explain to the students exactly what they need to do. If your teacher is trying to get you to do something and you still don’t understand, please email me. This invitation is open to other teachers also. I’ve consulted many teachers on how to explain their techniques in a more effective way.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a GREAT day!
